Six Diamond Award recipients 2008 Diamond Awards
shine at SANDAG ceremony

Six deserving organizations were presented with
2008 Diamond Awards by SANDAG Chair Mary Teresa Sessom at the March 28, 2008, SANDAG Board of Directors meeting. The award winners all promote alternatives to single-occupancy vehicle use including vanpooling, carpooling, transit, teleworking, walking, or biking. Some also provide incentives, subsidies,
or pre-tax deductions to their employers for their participation in eligible programs.

“The businesses and organizations we’re recognizing know the benefits of providing transportation programs that promote these commute options to employees,” Mayor Sessom noted. “At SANDAG, we use your success to help other companies set up transportation benefits programs.”

The Diamond Awards honor organizations on an annual basis for their outstanding contributions to reducing traffic conditions and improving mobility in the San Diego region.

Best New Program
Amylin Pharmaceuticals – commute benefit highlights include a transit subsidy, a free Coaster shuttle, and bike parking and shower facilities.

Innovation Award
EDAW – commute benefit highlights include cash benefit for carpooling, bicycling, or walking to work, bike parking and shower facilities, and free transit passes.

Program Excellence
Barona Valley Ranch Resort & Casino and Naval Base Coronado (NBC).  Barona commute benefit highlights include vanpool subsidy, and free shuttle for staff and visitors.  NBC commute benefit highlights include transit subsidy and vanpool subsidy. In addition, NBC has a very robust outreach and marketing program.

Ongoing Commitment
University of California, at San Diego (UCSD) and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP (PWSP). Dedication to their commuter benefits programs over a long period of time is what put these two over the top! UCSD continues to provide vanpool and carpool subsidies, bike lockers and shower facilities, and a Free Bus Zone. PWSP’s program highlights include fully subsidized bus, trolley, and COASTER passes, cash benefit for carpoolers and flextime, telework, and remote office options.

A reception followed the Board of Directors meeting to honor the Diamond Award recipients!
