SANDAG Directors recently approved the Regional Energy Strategy prepared by the Regional Energy Office. The strategy will be incorporated into the Regional Comprehensive Plan. Directors also accepted for distribution a plan to implement the Regional Energy Strategy.

The Strategy includes goals for public policy, electricity supply and demand, natural gas supply, and infrastructure capacity. A number of options were presented to the board for implementing the Strategy including implementing the SDG&E 20-year Electric Resource Plan; forming a SANDAG energy committee; forming a Regional Energy Authority; or forming a joint powers agency.

SANDAG will review the Implementation Strategy and consider options before a final recommendation is made to the Board in the fall.

Both the Regional Energy Strategy and the Regional Energy Strategy Implementation are available on the San Diego Regional Energy Office's Web site. Residents are encouraged to review the Implementation Strategy and forward comments to Nan Valerio by September 5, 2003.
