Annual Milestones Highlighted in Annual Report

SANDAG’s informative annual report is available online.  Not only does this method reduce costs, it also makes the report more interactive and user-friendly.  Upon going to the Web site, one is presented with an introduction and eight chapters highlighting the year’s progress.  Additional sections provide maps of the region and an overview of the agency’s Board of Directors. To meet the needs of those requiring the information in printed form, a “printer friendly document” feature is available.

During FY 2005, with its 27 member agencies, SANDAG began implementing the first ever Regional Comprehensive Plan to help guide our unsurpassed quality of life. The region also has a 2030 Mobility Plan that details our transportation needs and provides a clear vision for a truly world-class public transportation network. Voters recently approved the extension of the half-cent, local sales tax, known as TransNet, to help fund critical transportation improvements through the year 2048. Several high-priority transportation projects have been jumpstarted through the TransNet Early Action program. TransNet also has an $850 million environmental component.

SANDAG’s public safety efforts broadened with the consolidation of the Automated Regional Justice Information System (ARJIS) - a complex criminal justice enterprise network that captures every police incident in the San Diego region. And the SANDAG Criminal Justice Research Division continues to be a resource for local communities to assist in the planning process for crime prevention, public safety, and crime-reduction strategies.

Finally, the SANDAG Borders Committee remains committed to collaborating with Riverside, Imperial, and Orange Counties as well as Baja California on regional planning issues. Intergovernmental planning efforts also include improving communications with the area’s tribal governments.

These are just a few of the benchmarks being made by SANDAG. To read more, visit the annual report’s Web site.
