The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) held a special event on December 1 to honor the late Rosa Parks. The date marked the 50th anniversary of her legendary, history-changing act of defiance aboard a Montgomery, Alabama bus. The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) has proclaimed December 1 as “National Transit Tribute to Rosa Parks Day.”
During the event, MTS and the Coca Cola Bottling Company donated a documentary on the life of Rosa Parks to the children’s section of more than 70 county libraries. In addition to this special gift, hundreds of transit riders also enjoyed early morning refreshments courtesy of Coca Cola, and the Malcolm X Library provided a display of Civil Rights materials.
