Volunteers Needed to Help Implement
$14 Billion TransNet Extension

SANDAG is seeking public volunteers to assist in the implementation of the TransNet program — the local half-cent sales tax that was recently extended by the voters with the passage of Proposition A.

Membership on this Independent Taxpayer Oversight Committee (ITOC) is based on specific professional skills and experience. Members of should have expertise in various aspects of the development, design, construction, financing, or management of transportation facilities. ITOC members will be subject to SANDAG’s conflict of interest policies.

The ITOC will function as an integral component of the TransNet program, and will aid in its implementation. The committee will provide an increased level of accountability for expenditures, and will function in an independent and open manner to ensure that all voter mandates in Proposition A are carried out as required.  Selected members also will work to collectively develop positive, constructive recommendations for improvements and enhancements to the financial integrity and performance of the program.

Interested volunteers should contact SANDAG’s Public Information Office for an application at (619) 699-1950, or visit the SANDAG Web site. The deadline for applications is February 25, 2005.
