The newly designed San Diego State University (SDSU)
Bus
Plaza
opened to the public on January 30, 2005 according to officials from the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS). A ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 27 commemorated the event. All bus routes serving SDSU, including Routes 11, 13, 81, 115, 936, and 955, will use the efficient and rider-friendly transit loop.
“This new facility will provide much needed transportation support for SDSU’s growing student population as well as faculty, staff, and others who visit the energized and rapidly transforming campus,” said MTS CEO Paul Jablonski. “It is a cost-effective option for those who may not want to go through the stress of purchasing a parking permit, fighting traffic, and then searching for a space and it ties in nicely with the soon to open SDSU underground trolley station.”
The bus plaza is just one example of the university’s focus on improving campus life and extending those benefits to the surrounding community. “The opening of the bus transit center is an important regional public transportation improvement and a significant milestone in the completion of this massive project. We eagerly anticipate the start of trolley service to the SDSU campus this summer,” said SDSU President Stephen L. Weber.

on the university’s southern end, the plaza has been designed to accommodate a multitude of buses simultaneously and will complement the university’s much anticipated underground trolley station. Located directly above the cavernous stop, elevators and stairs provide commuters with easy access between the two facilities which comprise the
