Pomerado BridgeNorth County bridge keeps
San Diego moving

Video Broadcast Watch City of Escondido Mayor and SANDAG First Vice Chair Lori Holt Pfeiler discuss the Pomerado Bridge opening (requires Windows Media Player).

Crossing Interstate 15 (I-15) just got easier for North County travelers with the January 20 opening of the new Pomerado Bridge in the Rancho Bernardo area. Completed in just nine months, the bridge provides access to I-15, Pomerado Road, and West Bernardo Drive.

A crowd of 100-plus community members joined Caltrans, SANDAG, and other local officials to celebrate the bridge opening. Cheers filled the air as City of San Diego Councilmember Brian Maienschein; City of Escondido Mayor and SANDAG First Vice Chair Lori Holt Pfeiler; Caltrans District 11 Director Pedro Orso-Delgado; and Rancho Bernardo Community Council President Robin Kaufman broke through a banner in an inaugural drive across
the bridge.

The new and improved bridge features four lanes; a pedestrian and bicycle path; a signalized intersection at the west end; upgraded seismic standards; and aesthetic improvements to coordinate with other construction underway along the booming corridor.

The previous bridge was torn down in dramatic fashion to accommodate four new Managed Lanes from State Route 78 in Escondido to State Route 163. TransNet, the local half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements, is helping to fund the ambitious and innovative 20-mile facility for carpools, buses, and FasTrak® customers.
