In 2002, San Diego County had the second highest adult and juvenile arrest rates, compared to the other four most populated California Counties (Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, and Santa Clara). The
San Diego
adult arrest rate in 2002 was 41.9 per 1,000 population and the juvenile rate was 57.9. These numbers were only second to those recorded for
San
Bernardino.
Five years prior, in 1998,
San Diego
County
ranked third highest among the five largest
California
counties with respect to arrest rates.
Since 1998, locally, the adult arrest has declined 12 percent, with fairly equal decreases at the felony (11%) and misdemeanor levels (12%). The juvenile rate decrease was greater overall (20%), and showed more difference by arrest type (23% for felonies, 21% for misdemeanors, and 10% for status offenses).
