The new number for San Diego travelers Getting around the San Diego region will be easier than ever as SANDAG collaborates with Caltrans, the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), the North County Transit District (NCTD), and the San Diego County Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies (SAFE) to launch the state-of-the-art 511 traveler information service in March 2007. The 511 service will put a wealth of free, travel-related information at the public’s fingertips — 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Commuters soon will have current driving times for the I-15 and other San Diego County highways. Customers will be able to conveniently connect to the RideLink and transit customer service centers, and as the 511 system develops, tap into up-to-the-minute toll information for the I-15 Managed Lanes facility. They also will be able to compare driving times between the I-15 Managed Lanes and general purpose lanes. In addition, other valuable 511 features will include:
Whether it is accessed via telephone, Web (www.511sd.com), or CommunityView TV service, 511 will consolidate valuable transportation information into a one-stop, free public resource. San Diego joins other areas throughout the country that are offering this cutting-edge information service. The 511 Deployment Coalition has a goal of making 511 a seamless, national service by 2010.
