SANDAG has combined its vast repository of regional data with the technology and breadth of the Internet to provide better and more cost-efficient public access to demographic and population statistics. Two of the agency’s newest user-friendly tools include the San Diego-Tijuana Interactive Atlas and the Profile Warehouse.
The San Diego-Tijuana Interactive Atlas is the region’s resource for learning about demographic and economic information on both sides of the border. This mapping application was created by SANDAG, and is available to anyone with Internet access.
Available in both English and Spanish, this searchable atlas lets a user create thematic maps to feature various demographic data. The San Diego-Tijuana Interactive Atlas displays census tract areas for the United States and basic geo-statistical areas for Mexico. There are 49 demographic topics to map by these areas. Information is available about population, households, educational attainment, employment, income, and housing units.
The San DiegoTijuana Interactive Atlas has full zoom and pan capabilities, and it can display freeways and city names. This free application is available on the SANDAG Web site (www. sandag.org) in the Maps and GIS section.
In addition, SANDAG’s Profile Warehouse Internet application provides the public with an easy-to-read report that details the San Diego region’s population, housing, and economic information. This recently updated application is a great tool for learning about the region’s demographic and economic characteristics.
In four easy steps, a user can access valuable regional statistics data which may prove critical to making informed decisions. The Profile Warehouse contains data from the 1990 and 2000 Censuses, current estimates, and the 2030 Regional Growth Forecast. There are 14 different geographic types to choose from. These areas range in size from the region as a whole to census tracts.
The profile output is in PDF format, and provides the flexibility to conveniently save and print. This free application is also available on the SANDAG website in the Demographics and Other Data section.
