MTS partners with Coca-Cola to present local scholarships

trolleyThe Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), in partnership with the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Southern California and the San Diego County Office of Education, announced this year’s scholarship winners among San Diego County graduating high school seniors.

Students were asked to write an essay on “120 years of public transit in San Diego,”to commemorate the 120th anniversary of public transportation services in area. Winning students received notebook computers from Coca-Cola.

“This is a great opportunity for students and for the MTS and Coca-Cola to demonstrate the value we place in the future of our children,” said Paul Jablonski CEO of MTS. “Each year we encourage students to learn about public transportation and the vital role it plays in our community. The entries this year were very creative and showed a great understanding of our system.”

The winners received a notebook computer and a certificate, and were acknowledged at an award ceremony and brunch on June 15 at Petco Park. Following the award brunch, students were invited to stay for the Padres vs. Dodgers baseball game.

Participants in the award presentation included MTS Board members Jerry Rindone and Jillian Hanson-Cox, Coca-Cola executives Ken Ramirez and Charles Simpson, and County Office of Education spokesperson Jim Esterbrooks.
