To improve transportation on Interstates 805 and 5, SANDAG and Caltrans have undertaken a study of the entire I-805 corridor as well as I-5 south of State Route 54 to the U.S.-Mexico border.
The public is encouraged to get involved in the planning process to ensure the plan reflects the best interests of residents and businesses in the corridor. Current plans include the addition of two high occupancy vehicle lanes on I-5 from SR 905 to SR 54. Improvements to the I-805 corridor include the addition of four managed lanes similar to those found on I-15.
The I-805/I-5 Transportation Study Technical Working Group will guide the study by making recommendations to SANDAG's Transportation Committee. Conducted in partnership with Caltrans, participants include representatives from the Cities of Chula Vista, National City, San Diego, Imperial Beach, and the County of San Diego, local business and community groups, and transportation agencies.
The Technical Working Group meets regularly on the first Thursday of the month at SANDAG, 401 B Street, Suite 800, San Diego. The next meeting is scheduled for June 5 at 1:30 p.m.; interested individuals and organization representatives are encouraged to participate in these public meetings.
