Work Continues on Regional Comprehensive Plan

SANDAG’s Regional Planning Committee is working to finalize the draft Regional Comprehensive Plan (RCP) and Environmental Impact Report (EIR). The RCP Technical Working Group and Stakeholders Working Group, and the Planning Committee will hold meetings in June to clarify and address issues in the RCP and Environmental Impact Report. The working groups will then make recommendations to the Planning Committee before the final RCP and EIR go to the SANDAG Board for approval in July.

The RCP is a proposed strategic planning framework for the San Diego region. It balances population, housing, and employment growth with habitat preservation, agriculture, open space, and infrastructure needs.

Residents, city and county elected officials, and regional infrastructure providers have been working together with SANDAG to prepare the draft RCP. One of its key components is the Integrated Regional Infrastructure Strategy (IRIS), an investment strategy that will help the region meet its collective infrastructure needs.
