SchoolPool -
the educated way to get to school
SchoolPool

RideLink offers an alternative to help parents navigate the morning gridlock and get their students to school on time. By creating an active carpooling program or SchoolPool, parents and schools can reduce traffic on the streets and in the parking areas around their campuses, which means increased safety for students, parents, staff, and neighbors.

All 17 schools within the Carlsbad Unified School District currently are working with RideLink to implement this voluntary program. “By teaming up with RideLink to develop a program for our school district, we expect to reduce traffic, improve safety, and help parents with transporting students to and from our 17 schools,” said Carlsbad Unified Assistant Superintendent Walter Freeman. “We look forward to signing up dozens of families during the summer.”

The RideLink SchoolPool program offers a FREE carpool matching service to make this school-day ritual easier and more convenient:

  • Parents sign up to be matched with other families who live near one another.
  • Upon request, SchoolPool provides a Matchlist of students who live near one another.
  • Parents phone one another and determine if they want to start a carpool.
  • Parents discuss their students' schedules, arrange pick-up and drop-off points, and decide how to share carpool costs and driving responsibilities.
  • When appropriate, older students may drive.
  • Participating schools and SchoolPools provide Matchlists for parents to use when forming school-related carpools with their neighbors.
  • SchoolPool does not transport children to schools.

The SchoolPool program is open to students in all public and private elementary, middle, and high schools in San Diego County. Participation is voluntary and parents share the task of driving students to and from school. The parents decide how they would like to share the responsibility of getting their children back and forth to school. With more than 25 schools participating in the program throughout San Diego County, SchoolPool is the answer to the school commute.

Create your own SchoolPool by filling out an application or dialing 511 from any phone and requesting RideLink.
