511 launches TV broadcast 511

Since its launch in February 2007, 511 has provided free phone and Web service that consolidates the San Diego region's transportation information into a one-stop resource.  511 provides up-to-the minute information on traffic conditions, incidents and driving times, schedule, route and fare information for San Diego public transportation services, carpool and vanpool referrals, bicycling information, roadside assistance and more. The final piece of the program is the 511 TV Broadcast launching this summer.

Within the 511 TV Broadcast, three different traffic map views will display current traffic conditions, incidents, construction, and camera view locations specific to each viewing area. The broadcast will include detailed incident information, live camera views of the highways, and estimated travel times between popular driving locations. This new addition to the 511 service will provide San Diego County residents with up-to-the minute transportation information to assist them with making informed decisions about their route choices.

The 511 TV Broadcast will be available this summer on the following local cable television stations: the City of San Diego (CityTV), the City of Oceanside (KOCT) and the County of San Diego (County Television Network (CTN)). The feed to the stations will be twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week but actual air-times may vary.

The 511 service stems from a collaborative partnership among SANDAG, Caltrans, MTS, NCTD, California Highway Patrol, and San Diego County Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies (SAFE).

You can access the service by dialing 511 from any phone or go online to www.511sd.com.
