Employer spotlight: SonyRideLink

RideLink and Sony Electronics have partnered to provide vanpool options for Sony employees commuting to work in Rancho Bernardo. Sony is now offering a $50-a-month subsidy for employees who commute to work via vanpool. This subsidy is in addition to the $400 SANDAG provides to each vanpool in the San Diego region.

In July, Sony doubled the size of its fleet from two vanpools to four. Another five are set to join in August! Sony Facilities Manager Beverly Nelligan states that the company’s goal is to increase the number of vanpools to 14 by the end of 2008.

Based on Sony’s calculations, its four existing vanpools have freed up 130 parking spaces at the Rancho Bernardo campus. These vanpools also will save 8,077 gallons of gasoline per year and reduce enough greenhouse gas emissions to supply electricity for 9.4 homes for one year!

Whether you are an employer or an employee, vanpooling can help you beat your commute. For more information about vanpooling or other commute alternatives, dial 511 and ask for RideLink or visit the RideLink Web site at www.ridelink.org.
